Spring is here, and it’s time to get your landscape back in tip top shape so you can enjoy it all year round. Whether you love spending time in the garden or just want a quick fix to improve your curb appeal, these 4 spring landscaping tips for your home will help you get started.

Spring Cleaning Your Yard

The least fun project is the most important. Before you can get started on making your yard pretty, you need a clean canvas. Pick up sticks and branches. Rake and bag leftover leaves. Repair or throw away anything that was damaged by winter storms. You’ll be surprised how much better your yard looks once you spend a little time tidying things up. If you have bare patches in your grass, be sure to spread grass seed early enough to give it time to grow.

Start With Hardscaping & Building

Depending on how complex your landscaping plan is, you may have some hardscaping and building to do. These should be completed before you start the actual landscaping. What is hardscaping? It includes retaining walls, walkways, gazebos, water features, and other features in your yard that aren’t living. Because of the complexity of these elements and the crucial role they play in your landscape for years to come, you may want to consider bringing in some professional help to make sure things are done right.

Beware of Bloom Times

One of the greatest benefits of a professionally landscaped yard is the rotation of blooms throughout the year. If you are doing your landscape yourself, be sure to choose plants that will bloom at different times throughout the year, paying attention to color, placement, and texture for each blooming period. Stagger bloom times to allow for a beautiful landscape all year long.

Spruce Up Your House Too

Don’t get so caught up in your landscape that you forget about your home. The outside appearance of your house is a major part of your landscape. Spring is a great time for taking on home improvement projects and assess the exterior decorations on your home.
