Summer’s here! Is your garden looking a little bit tired, a little bit dull? Here are some easy tips to make your garden start to pop again.

Add some decorative curbing to separate your different yard areas

If your yard isn’t defined into separate areas, it can look a bit all over the place. Break up your yard into sections, with each one dedicated to something in particular. For instance, add a veggie patch, so you can grow fresh produce in the garden. Perhaps you’ll have an outdoor entertaining area on the lawn with a table and set of chairs for you to enjoy with guests. Maybe you can add some edging garden beds.

Once you’ve plotted out a new area or areas, then add decorative curbing to really define the area.

Install new lighting in your garden

Now that it’s summer out, why not make the most of your garden in the evenings, too? When it’s warm outside, you can stay outside longer and enjoy the fresh air, chat with family and friends, and get away from the screens for a bit.

Choose from solar lamp spikes, to add around the perimeters or your garden, or decorate larger trees or fences with fairy lights to really make your garden sparkle at night.

Make your garden thoroughly useful

Your yard needn’t just be pretty, it can be overwhelmingly useful too! Choose from fruit, vegetables, herbs, and helpers, to turn your garden into a productive member of the family. Veggies to plant in summer include beans, broccoli, kale, corn, carrots, and cucumbers.

For herbs, planting oregano, basil, cilantro, sage, rosemary, and thyme is usually successful. You can then start incorporating more fresh herbs into your cooking, which otherwise might be too costly at the store!

Add an aloe vera plant to your yard to help with antiseptic for around the home – they’re incredibly hardy.

Make it more people-friendly

The sun’s out, so you should be, too! Go online and hunt out some summer furniture for your yard to make the most of things. An entertaining set, or even just some outdoor beanbags to relax on extends your living space into your yard.

Picking up second hand goodies from yard sales or even swap sites means it doesn’t have to cost the earth.

Add colorful touches

Just because you didn’t plant flowers to bloom in summer in the previous months doesn’t mean that your yard has to be lacking in color. A lick of paint to your fence, planter boxes, or pot plants can make all the difference.

Head to your local paint spot and grab sampler pots in brilliant floral colors for those small pops of color around the yard that will make all the difference.

Summer is a great time to get out and about in your yard. With these simple tips you can have a more beautiful yard, and get out and enjoy it more – both now and in the months still yet to come!
