6 Landscaping Tips to Boost Your Curb Appeal

We aren’t all gifted landscape architects, which is why we can end up with boring yards, outdoor areas, and front walks. But you too can freshen up with just a few handy tips!

Tip 1: Use a combination of large and small garden elements

All small flower beds, or all large hedges can be super boring. Mix it up a bit by adding elements of different sizes throughout your space. A large tree here, some land cover there, meandering paving over there… Being a little bit eclectic and a little bit brave can lead you to a more interesting space.

Tip 2: Keep your garden beds neat by tending regularly

You know what makes many gardens ugly? When people don’t take care of them. Unkempt plants are one thing, but leaf strewn garden beds, filled with weeds and bugs can be a real eyesore. If you don’t like spending much time on garden upkeep, look for plants that don’t have a lot of leaf fall, so you’ll have less work to do. Or get your kids or the neighbors to earn some pocket money by tiding up for you!

Tip 3: Evergreens are an easy solution

Yards can look very different in summer than they do in winter. To prevent a threadbare yard in winter that looks like it’s decidedly boring and flat, choose to outfit your yard with evergreens, for a nice yard throughout every one of the seasons.

Tip 4: Replace old curb with a fresh installation

Old, crumbling, paint peeling curbs don’t look “vintage”, they look crummy! If you’ve got a very old curbing that’s falling apart or looking like it’s definitely had its day, then it’s time that you put in some fresh, new curbing. This will elevate the look of your whole yard.

Tip 5: Choose curbing colors to match your outdoor colors

Your curbing can be a feature of your new yard too, if you’d like it to be! Or it can be just a subtle divider between spaces, the choice is yours. Choose colors that work in tandem with the colors in the area, whether it’s matching or as a complementary color. Curbing can also be thicker or thinner, and made out of different materials, too.

Tip 6: Get inspired first

There’s plenty of inspiration out there! If you haven’t yet done so, then dip yourself into the world of Pinterest, the inspirational site where people put together their favorite ideas on a topic – try the topics “yard landscaping”, or “front yards” to kick start your inspiration journey, or browse through inspirational blogs.

Whirl offers great options for yard curbing in a full range of colors, thicknesses, styles, and materials.
