Most of us love the feel of the sun on our faces. The warmth and light bring a sense of happiness, especially when coupled with outdoor activities at parks, playgrounds, and picnic areas.

While basking in the occasional glow is fine, we know that too much sun exposure may be dangerous. Children are more susceptible to overexposure, and sunburns early in life increase the risk of skin cancer in adulthood.

Fortunately, there are practical steps we can all take to protect ourselves. Wearing UV resistant clothing and hats, using sunscreen, and avoiding the sun during the hottest part of the day are all simple ways to minimize sun exposure.

Another simple and cost-effective step is to install shade structures. Research shows that shade can reduce UV exposure by up to 75%. In places where natural shade is not an option, installed shade structures can lower sun exposure, offer a cool place to sit, or double as an outdoor teaching studio or class tent. The possibilities are endless.

Let’s take a look at three of our most popular shade structures.

These structures can add a cozy element to any location, whether residential or commercial. Gazebos can come in many shapes and can be built to provide full or partial shade from the elements. We can also add low walls, fencing, or screens to these structures.

Picnic Shelters

Picnics are a great way to enjoy the outdoors - as long as the weather cooperates. Fortunately, picnic shelters can extend the enjoyment even when conditions are less than perfect. These simple structures are typically placed on concrete slabs and left open for easy access.

Playground Cover

Summer heat can quickly take the fun out of time at the playground. Equipment can become dangerously hot, leaving children at risk of burns from more than the sun. Playground covers can help to cut down on the sun’s blinding heat while also protecting from wind and light rain. Not only will it protect little explorers from the elements, but playground covers can also extend the life of your equipment and keep it from fading due to sun exposure.

At Whirl, we care about the health of every person who uses our products. Our shade structures can help people of all ages safely enjoy the outdoors in all seasons.
