How to Apply for a Commercial Playground Grant

In today’s technology-focused world, encouraging our children to go outside and play can be a hassle. However, with commercial playgrounds being built in nearby parks, neighborhoods, and schools, children can be motivated to climb, jump, swing and play outside. If you are interested in building a commercial playground in your neighborhood, there are many ways to make that possible.

Whether you are a parent, teacher, or a member of a community organization, applying for a commercial playground grant is easier than you would think. The application process and approval may take some time, but finding the information you need and starting the process is as easy as reading this article. These tips will help you apply for a commercial playground grant and get your children playing outside this summer.

Step 1: Find a Grant Opportunity

Communities, states, and the Federal Government offer many opportunities for building commercial playgrounds in neighborhoods across the country. You are responsible for deciding which grant opportunity is best for your neighborhood.

Step 2: Register Your Organization

In order to apply for a grant, you must register yourself or your organization with the community or government program issuing the grant. This will involve you visiting their website and registering through their online portal. Some places require registration fees, others do not. These fees can be a determining factor in whether or not you choose to work with a specific grant.

Once you register, you will be supplied with a DUNS number that will give you access to their application packages and allow you to move on step 3. Bear in mind that registration approval can take up to 3-5 business days, so factor this in to your process.

Step 3: Download & Fill Out Grant Application Package

Grant application packages are provided to you by your grant source. You can choose to fill these out online or mail them in through the postal service. We recommend printing them out as they are often many, many pages and are easier to read and fill out with your group when you have a tangible copy to pass around. With a hard copy you will also be able to double-check your information and avoid many of the common mistakes that can slow down the application process.

Step 4: Specify the details of the playground installation

As you fill out your application package, you will have to include all pricing and safety information regarding your commercial playground of choice. The location of your playground, your choice of commercial playground installation company, the playground materials used, and the playground safety surfaces must be included in your grant application.

The government or community program responsible for supplying the grant will want to know how much money you will need and what you will be spending it on before they decide to approve your grant.

Step 5: Wait for approval

The application process for commercial playground grants can be slow. Even after you fill out and turn in your grant application, it can take up to two weeks for it to be processed. Many programs will give you access to a profile when you register your organization, and you will be able to keep an eye on your application and follow its progression through the approval process.

Remember to finish all necessary actions in each step of the application before moving on to the next to avoid any mistakes that can slow down the process even more. Even if you are turned down from one program, remember that there are many grant programs out there that specialize in commercial playgrounds and you are free to apply to as many of them as you see fit.
